The Russian state research center, the Kvant Institute, which specializes in research and technological development of electronic hardware and software for the state and its public institutions, has also been added to the sanctions list. The Treasury Department targeted FSB with sanctions in March for its involvement in several Kremlin-led cyber attacks.

The Trump administration announced on Monday additional sanctions on Russian companies and individuals over cyberattacks and assistance to Russian intelligence.

The sanctions mean that all of the property and interests in property held by the individuals and the businesses will be blocked, and people in the U.S. will be prohibited from engaging in transactions with them.

A USA official did not immediately respond to a request for further details.

The three sanctioned men are Aleksandr Lvovich Tribun; Oleg Sergeyevich Chirikov; and Vladimir Yakovlevich Kaganskiy; all of whom work for Divetechnoservices.

The five Russian entities facing new sanctions in the United States are controlled by or provided support to Federal Security Service (FSB) to improve Russia's cyber and underwater capabilities, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said.
