Memphis woman seen letting young girl out of pet kennel

Leimome Cheeks, 62, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly transporting her two grandchildren in pet kennels in the trunk of her vehicle.

The disturbing footage shows 62 year-old Leimone Cheeks opening the grate to a dog kennel that was in the trunk of her vehicle.

The video was taken on Elvis Presley Boulevard near Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee.

She is now facing two charges of child endangerment.

The kids told police that there was no air in the back of the vehicle, later moving them into the backseat.

Temperatures climbed well into the 90's in Memphis on Saturday and the children, aged 7 and 8, said the kennels grew quite hot. "For them to be in the hot auto like that in cages is sad".

Neighbors are trying to piece together the thought behind the woman's actions.

The incident was filmed on cell phone on Saturday by a man who happened to drive pass as the children were exiting from the vehicle.

Cheeks told police that she had indeed driven from the home in Whitehaven to Collierville with her grandchildren in the kennels but had checked on them during the drive, according to court records. Two neighbors told WMC Cheeks was a "super good neighbor".

"I think she needs some help". Something is going on with her.

Skylarr Blake, who lives a few doors down from Cheeks, said he couldn't imagine her doing such a thing.

We tried reaching family for comment, but have not heard back. Some report that the woman is the grandmother, while many reports exclude the information.
