Another person close the former glamor model had this fascinating piece of information: "Melania doesn't believe that she owes anyone an explanation for her movements, outside of the official statement that [Melania's spokesperson Stephanie Grisham] issued on her behalf".

Melania Trump has attended an annual gala benefiting the Washington theater where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated.

Mrs. Trump "congratulated the recipients of this year's Lincoln Medal - an annual award given to people who have exemplified the legacy of President Lincoln through their achievements and bodies of work", according to the first lady's office.

"I didn't invite them", President Trump said. "Tonight reminds all of us about the power the arts have in cultivating the American voice", she said, according to the Daily Mail.

Donald Trump's Twitter page was home to an explosive rant about his wife after she had a kidney operation. Very little is known about what Melania has gone through over the past few weeks - it was simply confirmed that she was having surgery for a "benign kidney condition".

Her office didn't inform news organizations that she had attended until after the event.

The event at Ford's Theatre marked the First Lady's first solo appearance since she underwent an emergency kidney operation in May.

In the past, the stylish, Slovenia-born first lady has been an asset to her husband on the world stage, and has at times softened the image of a president who tends to use blunt force in his diplomatic efforts.

But on Friday, Mr Trump spoke with the media as he departed the White House for the G7 meeting in Quebec, Canada - an event his wife was originally planning to accompany him to.

Larry Kudlow, director of Trump's National Economic Council, said last week on CNBC that Trump had the numbers the night before and his tweet wasn't meant to signal a positive report.

According to him, the first lady had a almost four-hour surgery, but she's doing great now.

But, the president said, she was staying in the White House on doctor's orders. We're not going to invite either team, but we have other teams that are coming.you know my attitude: if they want to be here - its the greatest place on Earth - I'm here. "She can not travel internationally yet, and is doing great".

"She had a big operation", Trump said.

This isn't the first time the first lady has likely used fashion as a way of speaking without saying a word.
