Dennis Rodman to Travel to Singapore for North Korea Summit

President Donald Trump listens as he meets with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong ahead of a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, June 11, 2018, in Singapore.

The Global Times of China noted the how a positive outcome of the Trump-Kim summit in Singapore would end "hostilities in the Korean Peninsula", and that "both Washington and Pyongyang need to show flexibility to ensure that they can find consensus".

"Wide-ranging and profound views on the issue of establishing new DPRK-US relations, the issue of building a permanent and durable peace-keeping mechanism on the Korean peninsula, the issue of realising the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and other issues of mutual concern, as required by the changed era, will be exchanged at the DPRK-US summit talks", the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported in English.

The two leaders are finally set to meet Tuesday morning (Monday night in the U.S.) at a luxury island resort in Singapore, the climax of a diplomatic roller-coaster rivaling any at the nearby Universal Studios theme park.

President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's historic meeting will begin with a one-on-one encounter, a White House official confirmed to reporters in Singapore Monday.

"We've got a very interesting meeting. tomorrow, and I just think it's going to work out very nicely", Trump said. They'll be joined later by their staffs for an expanded meeting and a working lunch.

Since then, the path to the summit has been rocky, with Mr Trump at one point calling it off completely.

In an apparent bid to lower soaring expectations fueled partly by himself, Trump has already signaled the possibility that it may take more than one meeting with Kim to seal an ultimate agreement. "I think we can presume that North Korea made more demands to Singapore than the United States did in terms of security".

At issue is whether Kim would be willing to abandon a nuclear weapons program that has advanced rapidly in recent years, posing an increasing threat to the US and its allies.

"We appreciate your hospitality and professionalism and friendship", Trump said, seated at a long banquet table ahead of a working lunch with delegations from the USA and Singapore.

"North Korea has its own royal lineage - the Kim family - and so it is natural that Kim Yo Jong traveled to Singapore separately from her brother", Christopher Green, a North Korea researcher and Sino-NK editor, told NK News on Monday.

"The entire world is watching the historic summit between [North Korea] and the United States of America, and thanks to your honest efforts ... we were able to complete the preparations for the historic summit", Mr Kim told Mr Lee through an interpreter.

A CNN analyst, in a report titled 'Four steps for a successful Trump-Kim summit', highlights how "it is still hard to predict how any summit will go (especially with two unpredictable leaders such as Trump and Kim)". He told reporters he thinks he will know nearly immediately whether a deal can be made, saying: "I will know, just my touch, my feel".

Totalitarian North Korea's governing ideology of "Juche", which champions self-sufficiency, has brought little but decades of economic stagnation, widespread poverty and, at times, starvation. Others complained about the jams in downtown Singapore.
