White House Economic Adviser: Canada's Trudeau 'Stabbed Us In The Back'

Navarro also said Trump attending the G7 in Canada was a "courtesy" to Trudeau and that the President had "bigger things on his plate" in Singapore.

"It would be with regret but it would be with absolute certainty and firmness that we move forward with retaliatory measures on July 1 applying equivalent tariffs to the ones that the Americans have unjustly applies to us", Trudeau said at a press conference closing the summit.

"Not only is the trade deficit with Canada small, the United States runs a current account surplus with Canada", Harper, who served as head of state from 2006 to 2015, told "Sunday Morning Futures".

And EU leaders at the summit also reportedly told Trump they had no choice but to impose their own tariffs against the U.S.

And finally, a promise: "I am heading for Canada and the G-7 for talks that will mostly center on the long time unfair trade practiced against the United States".

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Mr Trump's announcement on Twitter had destroyed trust and Europe's answer must be to stick even closer together. "Kim must not see American weakness".

In addition to Canada, China and Mexico make up America's top three trading partners.

According to Trump, who blamed the US leaders who preceded him for the current trade deficits, the answer is a change in the entire worldwide trading system.

The group of seven nations that make up the G7 are Canada, France, the United States, the UK, Germany, Japan and Italy.

Trump and Trudeau have been ramping up insults ― with Trump characteristically going further than Trudeau ― as the two countries bicker over tariffs.

Kudlow alleged that the Canadian Prime Minister used the G-7 summit for his domestic political consumption. That's what week, dishonest Justin Trudeau did.

At one point Kudlow, 70, referred to Canada's leader as "Pierre" Trudeau, confusing the prime minister with his late father, who served in the same capacity for more than 15 years between 1968 and 1984 and died in 2000.

Navarro was referring to the prime minister's announcing after the Group of Seven meeting Saturday that Canada will "not be pushed around" by the USA with its decision to slap tariffs on some imports from Canada and other countries.

During a press conference after the summit, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau flatly rejected a proposal by the White House to insert a sunset clause in a re-negotiated North American Free Trade Agreement.

"There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump".

"That's what bad-faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference". "And he was even willing to sign that socialist communique, and what did Trudeau do as soon as the plane took off from Canadian airspace?"

The move enraged Trump, who branded his Canadian counterpart "dishonest and weak" in a furious tweet, announcing the USA would pull out of an agreed communique.
