When she received the phone call from Donnie about Johnson's clemency, Kardashian said her "heart was so full".

The local NBC affiliate WVTM-13 captured the moment the 63-year-old grandmother was released from prison, as she raced toward a group of her family members and friends that had arrived to greet her.

Kim Kardashian West responded to critics of her visit to the White House who said she was legitimizing the president and his policies.

Her supporters have argued her life sentence for being a first-time, non-violent drug offender was too harsh. "I can't wait to get back on the workforce and get back to my community", she told a gathering of family members and supporters.

IT WAS the good news story of the day despite its weird circumstances.

The TV star said the call "will forever be one of my best memories". Kim championed Alice's release with the help of her attorney, Shawn Holley. Though Johnson said she feels she overpaid her debt for the crime that she committed, she refuses to focus on the past.

The aim is to buy time before the permanent EU-UK future relationship - which has yet to be agreed - begins. The "backstop" plan is "something that we don't want ever to happen", she said.

"I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon", Kardashian West tweeted following the meeting. "When they all came on, then I heard Kim Kardashian's voice and she was the one that told me it had happened, that I was free, that I was going to rejoin my family", Johnson told reporters outside the prison in Pickens County, Alabama.

"I've been in communication with the White House and trying to bring her case to the president's desk and figure out how we can get her out", she said of Johnson, who has spent over two decades behind bars.

Alice Marie Johnson has been released from federal prison hours after her life sentence was commuted by President Donald Trump. Despite never making or selling any drugs herself, she was sentenced to life without the chance of parole, with an additional 25 years after a co-conspirator testified against her.

Johnson was convicted in 1996 of conspiracy to possess cocaine and attempted possession of cocaine. Everyone had a unanimous... feeling of Alice that she will live a great life...

"Her commutation is inspirational & gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance", she continued.
