Trump will attend G7 summit but he’s leaving early

The issue is certain to be raised when Trump holds separate meeting in Charlevoix on Friday with French President Emmanuel Macron and Trudeau.

Canada hosts this year's G7 in La Malbaie, Quebec.

French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau vowed on Thursday to confront U.S. President Donald Trump over his tariffs on steel and aluminum, which Macron called "unilateral and illegal". "And they understand it's going to happen", Trump said. They didn't tell you that, did they? "Ongoing negotiations are a good sign and are certainly better than a tariff war". "It will start first of all to hurt USA workers".

"We have massive trade deficits with nearly every country".

The announcement comes as a senior Trump administration official said that the president wants to end the three-party talks to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement, aiming instead to deal separately with Canada and Mexico to restructure the trade accord.

But as part of the trade dispute, Trump has also stirred tension with one ally in particular - Canada - through a series of misleading or false claims about the country's economy and history with the U.S. Trump's comments have led to several reportedly tense conversations between Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

"If I can get the president to actually realize that what he's doing is counterproductive for his own goals as well, perhaps we can move forward in a smarter way", Trudeau said.

"The American President may not mind being isolated, but neither do we mind signing a 6 country agreement if need be", Macron said in another tweet.

Other G7 leaders, including British Prime Minister Theresa May and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, have also spoken out against the US tariffs.

These include the vote on whether Judge Aaron Persky should be recalled and, if he is, who should replace him. Based on early voting, turnout in San Mateo County is about 35 percent, Church said.

Unable to persuade Trump to consider ways to stay in the Iran nuclear deal, and stung by us tariffs on European steel and aluminum, Macron appeared to be recalibrating his approach to Trump. In response, Trump quipped to Trudeau, "Didn't you guys burn down the White House?" referring to the War of 1812.

In a bid to rebuild America's industry, Trump has imposed hefty tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, including those from key G7 allies like Canada, Japan and the European Union. US stocks were trading higher on Wednesday.

Just after 6 a.m., Trump used the social media platform to accuse Canada of charging US customers astronomical tariffs on dairy products.

Most recently, Trump pulled the USA out of the Iran nuclear agreement, following his earlier decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord. If the administration treats allies as enemies it will turn European anger into rage.

Canada and the European Union rejected the notion immediately, while only Italy was open to the idea.

The German government was not the only ally to lash out at the United States president before the Canada meeting.

The two leaders bonded after Macron invited Trump to Paris for the Bastille Day military parade.

"The rules-based worldwide order is being challenged, not by the usual suspects but by its main architect and guarantor: the United States", said European Council President Donald Tusk. The Iran deal included Germany and the United Nations Security Council, of which the U.K. and France are permanent members.
