Miss America ditches swimsuit competition in sweeping overhaul of pageant

After months of controversy within the Miss America organization, executives announced Tuesday that the almost century-old pageant will no longer judge contestants on their physical appearance. She said that the swimsuit portion is not the highest rated section of the broadcast and that viewers seem to be more interested in the talent competition.

Miss America is scrapping its swimsuit competition and will no longer judge contestants based on physical appearance, the organization announced Tuesday.

There also will no longer be an evening gown portion and instead the contestants will wear an outfit that best represents their style. "That's huge. And that means we will no longer have a swimsuit competition". Vincent-Tripp, an assistant attorney general at the Florida Office of the Attorney General, was Miss America 1991. "You're just mad you can't gawk at them like meat anymore", another wrote.

These exciting changes come as a result of the Miss America organization being led entirely by women for the first time in its long history. Miss America was crowned but a runner-up received the top swimsuit trophy.

This is clearly a departure for the historic pageant, long known for its bathing suits, sequins, and big hair-dos. In July 2016, she sued former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes for sexual harassment; Ailes resigned shortly after. Miss America now has an all-female leadership team.

It will all be official in time for the September 9 competition in Atlantic City. Carlson said contestants will now be able to wear "whatever they choose".

Koch network launches campaign against Trump tariffs
May is expected to discuss the tariff with Trump at the summit this week. "We don't want to be taken advantage of anymore". By the time I finish trade talks, that will change, ' Trump promised in a tweet Monday morning.

The changes follow an email scandal in December, in which former leaders denigrated the intelligence and personal lives of former Miss Americas.

Carlson also told GMA that the competition would be more inclusive of "women who may not have felt comfortable participating in our program before" due to the bikini event portion, another radical step for the organization. But I did recognize the significance of that part of the competition.

'Miss America is proud to evolve as an organization and join this empowerment movement'.

The rise of the #MeToo movement is powering the changes, Carlson said.

By shifting the emphasis away from physical appearance and focusing instead on personality and intellect, Carlson said she believes the competition will see an "influx" of new contests and new company sponsorships.
