Jackson County, Ohio included in sites for medical marijuana dispensaries

Once a dispensary is awarded a certificate of operation, it can begin to sell medical marijuana to OH patients and caregivers in accordance with OH laws and rules.

All provisional license holders now have six months to demonstrate compliance by completing a successful on-site inspection by Board of Pharmacy agents.

Ohio's Northeast District consists of dispensaries in Lorain, Cuyahoga, Summit, Stark and Lake counties. They either received no applications or had no qualifying applicant.

"I don't think it will occur on September 8", said Kevin Murphy, an attorney who specializes in the medical marijuana business. "The nice part about Ohio's program is while you may not have gotten a license today, the program's going to continue to grow over the next few years and more licenses are going to be awarded at some point in the future", Rosenberger said.

Also Monday, the board launched a toll-free medical marijuana help-line for patients, caregivers and health professionals.

On Monday Ohio officials planned to announce where the 56 medical marijuana dispensaries will be located.

The Board of Pharmacy has been getting background checks and verifying that proposed locations are at least 500 feet from schools and churches.

Overall, almost 20 applications were turned in from sites asking to operate a dispensary in Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana county. The law requires doctors to get certificates to recommend medical marijuana to patients who have one of 21 conditions, including Parkinson's, epilepsy and chronic pain.
