IDF: Rocket sirens in Golan were false alarm

The IDF said in a subsequent statement that the Red Alerts were a "false alarm" but confirmed that the Iron Dome system had indeed been activated.

Explosions were being reported by residents in communities in the Golan Heights on Thursday as sirens went off.

At 17:10 in the settlements in the North of the Golan heights, sounded the siren warning of rocket attack.

"Following reports regarding sirens in the Golan regional council, it appears to have been a false alarm. It should be noted that the reports regarding an aircraft that was identified and intercepted are false". The circumstances are being looked into.

Israel then launched its most intensive air strikes into Syria since the start of the Syrian civil war. According to Russia's Defense Ministry, Israel had used 28 warplanes in its Syria strikes and fired 70 missiles.

It comes after Hezbollah's leader said 55 missiles were fired from Syrian territory at the Golan Heights.

Israel has been providing weapons to anti-Damascus militants as well as medical treatment to the Takfiri elements wounded in Syria.
