Hartford police officer stabbed

A police officer was critically injured Thursday morning when she was stabbed in the neck while trying to handcuff a woman during an eviction.

As of Thursday afternoon, the officer was listed as being in critical condition. The officer is now at Hartford Hospital, along with the Hartford Police Chief and Mayor Luke Bronin.

Hartford Police have not identified the officer that was stabbed, other than to describe her as a well-respected, 12-year-veteran of the force trained in crisis intervention.

Law enforcement officers around the state are sending their thoughts and support to the Hartford Police Department after an officer was stabbed Thursday morning.

During an earlier news conference at Hartford Hospital, officials said she had undergone surgery, according to the Courant.

Chief Rosado says that she was one of two officers who responded to the apartment for a dispute that involved a tenant and landlord, with no indication of any weapons.

She was stabbed in a jugular vein, the Hartford Courant reported.

Foley also said "the accused has been charged with Attempted Murder".

IDF: Rocket sirens in Golan were false alarm
According to Russia's Defense Ministry, Israel had used 28 warplanes in its Syria strikes and fired 70 missiles. Explosions were being reported by residents in communities in the Golan Heights on Thursday as sirens went off.

Foley says the suspect, a 39-year-old city woman, is in custody.

Authorities haven't released the names of the officer and suspect. The maintenance workers heard a struggle in another room. She reportedly suffered several serious stab wounds.

"She's tough", Foley said.

Her identity has not been released at this time.

Two civilians who worked in the building were able to disarm the suspect, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said.

"Today was a very hard day for the Hartford Police Department and our thoughts and prayers continue to be with our officer and her family". She is in critical condition and we will update the public later today.

Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy also tweeted saying, "Our prayers are with the HPD officer who was injured in the line of duty this morning".
