Six Programs Earn NCAA Public Recognition Award

Four Baylor University athletics programs received National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Academic Performance Program awards Wednesday afternoon. Last week, the women's golf team won the NCAA Austin Regional and advanced to the NCAA Men's and Women's Golf Championships to be held in Stillwater, Oklahoma, May 18-23. "Matching a school record for NCAA Public Recognition Awards is an accomplishment that everyone associated with Georgia Tech can be proud of", director of athletics Todd Stansbury said. The award recognizes teams with APRs in the top 10 percent nationally in each sport.

The mission of the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Development program is to challenge student-athletes to be lifelong learners while pursuing continuous improvement academically, socially, personally and professionally during and beyond their careers as student-athletes. Five other Air Force teams, men's gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, men's track and women's basketball, had four-year averages above 990. The Nittany Lions have had at least three squads earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards in all 13 years of the program.

The Maryland cross country and tennis programs were recognized Wednesday as part of the 2018 NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program. "This honor is a credit to the dedication of our student-athletes, coaches and support staff". The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship.

Stokes has been managing to contribute notably with the ball too, supporting Archer well in the past few games. He, however, could not perform and returned to the locker room after losing his wicket without making a mark.

The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a tangible measure of a team's academic performance. The women's golf program has also been exceptional on the course winning a school-record seven tournaments in 2017-18.

"The key with the April is that it's a complete team effort, from our faculty to our campus advisers, coaches and administration", said Tommy Powell, the school's assistant provost for student-athlete academic development "We all work together to make a world-class experience for our student-athletes and prepare them for life when they leave".

April scores for all Division I teams will be released May 23.
