Mets place Cespedes on 10-day DL

Now, he and the New York Mets are opting to play it safe.

Yoenis Cespedes spent about a week trying to play through his latest lower body injury.

With AP Photos. The New York Mets have placed outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hip flexor. Manager Mickey Callaway said NY hoped Cespedes could heal while playing, but the problem persisted. "And I think it became evident after that one off day where he was feeling the same, not a lot of improvement, and then he got the MRI and it kind of made the decision for us". The 32-year-old was limited to 81 games last season due to leg injuries after signing a $110 million, four-year contract in November 2016. Through the opening 21 games of the year, Cespedes batted just.195 with five home runs, 21 RBI and 39 strikeouts.

It takes Deadpool having to learn a few lessons before he can actually save the day but in true comic book movie form he does. With 55 reviews counted on Rotten Tomatoes , Deadpool 2 has an 85 percent positive rating , averaging a score of 7.2/10.

"He was doing everything we asked of him, not only in the offseason, but in-season", Callaway said.

While Cespedes is eligible to return as soon as May 24, Callaway said "nobody can predict" when the slugger might be back in the lineup. His preparation and the way he went about his business is definitely not the reason this happened.

The move, retroactive to May 14, corresponded with the team's recalling of infielder Phillip Evans from Triple-A Las Vegas for reinforcement.
