Wow Air expands in Asia with new Delhi route

The 's founder and CEO, Skuli Mogensen, said launch one-way fares for flights from Delhi to Reykjavik and beyond to U.S. destinations like New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles will be Rs 13,499 (all-inclusive) for basic economy.

This winter, Wow is scheduled to fly from Reykjavik to the US cities of Newark, Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Detroit, San Francisco, Los Angeles and St. Louis. "The airline will have five direct flights a week between New Delhi and Keflavik airport that will connect to multiple destinations in North America and Europe", Mogensen told reporters here, adding that in due course they will offer daily services and operate from other Indian destinations.

"While the Wow basic introductory fare will be priced at Rs 13,499 with taxes, the "Wow premium" fares at the other end will be priced from Rs 46,599 onwards including taxes", the airline's founder and chief executive officer Skuli Mogensen said. "It is an opportunity to change the game", Mogensen said. And just a 125 mile road trip from Delhi is the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

The new routes will provide millions of Americans easy access to India.

WOW air will use brand new Airbus A330neo aircrafts on the Delhi route, which are outfitted with the new WOW premium seats offering at least 37 inches of legroom.

Icelandic budget carrier Wow Air will add India to its network on December 5, operating five flights per week between Reykjavik and India. The special fare is available for travel only from January 10 through March 31 next year when booked with a return trip. The one-way fares only apply when accompanied by a return booking. Those flights are in the low $600s, round-trip.

The carrier already operates a route to Newark Liberty International Airport as well as Chicago, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Boston, Montreal, Washington D.C. and Californian destinations Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami from London.

Mr Mogensen said he was optimistic about the success of the airline in India.
