Suspect in custody after shots fired at Dixon High School

Dixon High School and all Dixon Public Schools are on lockdown. He said a media staging area will occur around 10:30-11 a.m. this morning at the Peoria Avenue bridge, but the time may change.

A 19-year-old former Dixon High student is in custody with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after bringing a gun to the school this morning.

A gunman has been shot by a police officer after opening fire at a high school. The suspect's injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

"No students or staff were injured in the incident". Several police agencies responded to the scene. Peoria Avenue which borders the east side of the high school, was closed for the investigation. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

The Dixon school district has instructed parents to pick up their students at the Al Morrison Baseball field.

Students were originally taken to the nearby Armory following the incident and are being bused to the baseball field.

Dixon police could not comment or confirm if there was a shooting, all they could say is there is no public threat and no threat to students.
