Resumes stacking up for much-coveted NY Attorney General job

Barbara Underwood, thrust into the job as NY state's chief legal officer when Eric Schneiderman abruptly resigned amid allegations he abused woman, said Tuesday she won't seek election to the attorney general's positon.

Barclay, an eight-term Republican and deputy minority leader of the Assembly, said the special panel of lawmakers will review resumes of 16 candidates for the appointment and make recommendations to the full state Legislature. "An Acting Attorney General not appointed by the legislature has no authority to take an official action such as seeking an indictment from a grand jury".

Last week, Schneiderman abruptly resigned amid claims he physically abused women he dated. Schneiderman denies the allegations.

Richard Thomas is charged with allegedly siphoning campaign and inaugural committee money, the New York Daily News reports.

Democratic Rep. Kathleen Rice announced Tuesday she would pass on running to become New York's attorney general after Eric Schneiderman resigned.

Apple INC (AAPL) Shareholder Gyroscope Capital Management Group LLC Has Increased Position
It improved, as 50 investors sold AAPL shares while 1023 reduced holdings. 637 grew stakes while 151 funds acquired stakes. Wall Street Access Asset Management Llc bought 7,772 shares as the company's stock declined 3.81% with the market.

"I am not a politician", Underwood said.

Candidate interviews will continue through Tuesday night and again on Wednesday.

Names floated for potential runs in November include New York City Public Advocate Tish James, considered a likely front-runner, state Sen. Michael Gianaris, a Queens Democrat. State lawmakers can appoint a successor to finish out the term of former Attorney General Eric Schneiderman before elections this fall.

"She is a tremendously qualified candidate who could serve out the remainder of this term free of any political considerations", Maloney said of Underwood, who has said she doesn't plan to run for a four-year term as attorney general. Republicans have criticized Cuomo for chiming in on the attorney general selection process, saying the state's top legal agency must remain independent from the governor's office.
