Steven Gerrard is widely expected to ring the changes this summer and that could mean that he would try to cash in on a number of the exiting first teamers at Ibrox who have let the fans down this season.

And former Gers stopper Allan McGregor will rejoin the Ibrox club on a free transfer after the Hull City player of the year turned down a new offer at the KCOM.

McGregor is now Steven Gerrard's second signing since taking over as Rangers boss, following the capture of midfielder Scott Arfield from Burnley earlier this week.

McGregor returns to Rangers six years after he left the club to join Turkish side Besiktas. In total, the 36-year old has played in over 400 games in his career.

If either side are to land the midfielder this summer, though, they will need to cough up a considerable sum. However, the move away from Nice never materialised and he subsequently stayed in France.

The 35-cap Scotland global won three league titles, a hat-trick of Scottish Cups and five League Cup titles during his first Rangers stint.

"I started training here when I was 12 years old and used to come through the main stand maybe twice a week".

McGregor has 38 Scotland caps and his form was rewarded with a recall from Alex McLeish recently. "He is a Rangers supporter who rose through the ranks here, so having someone with such a depth of feeling towards the club is another great asset to the squad", he added.

"If you keep doing that, as we've seen before, that's what wins you titles".
