DirecTV Now adds DVR for all, updates iOS and Apple TV apps

AT&T has begun rolling out its previously promised app update for DirecTV Now internet-TV streaming service - which among other features now gives all subscribers access to a DVR with up to 20 hours of storage for no extra cost.

According to DIRECTV NOW's blog post, the new look is to make it easier for users to find their most-watched channels and favorite programs, as they are now front and center. The features are being made available to iOS and tvOS users first, though AT&T promises that Android, Roku, and Fire TV users will get access to the DVR and other changes in coming weeks. The saved content can be watched on any device that supports DirecTV NOW. "New episodes on select channels will be available on-demand after airing, so you don't have to worry about setting up a recording prior", the DirecTV Now statement continued.

AT&T also is offering access for up to three simultaneous streams per account, up from two available in the initial version. PlayStation Vue, Philo, and YouTube TV have DVR time limits (of 28 days, 30 days, and nine months, respectively) but no limit on recording hours. Sick of your spouse's love for reality TV? Users can also now choose to pay for an additional, third stream for $5 per month. Record an entire series or just one episode on nearly all our channels. Plus you can fast forward and rewind programs. No need for a box at home or to use up the memory in your smartphone - it's all in the cloud! The Android enthusiasm started with the original Motorola Droid, but the tech enthusiasm now covers just about everything.

DIRECTV NOW has been beta testing a brand new interface, for quite a few months now. For example, subscribers who live in L.A. can now watch the local TV stations in NY or other areas if they're traveling (depending on availability of local channels on DirecTV Now). For example, if you watch FOX (KTTV) on DIRECTV NOW at home in Los Angeles and are traveling to Dallas, where FOX (KDFW) station is available for DIRECTV NOW customers, you'll be able to watch KDFW during your visit.

Entertainment, Uninterrupted - you'll never miss a beat with our new layout, because your stream will be playing in the background, or on a pop-up. You can download the DIRECTV NOW app from the App Store for free.
