Israeli Minister of Construction and Housing Yoav Galant said that the IDF's response to the recent Iranian rocket attack severely weakened Iranian infrastructures in Syria. Israel's army said today it had carried out widespread raids against Iranian targets in Syria overnight after rocket fire towards its forces it blamed on Iran, marking a sharp escalation between the two enemies.

Iranian forces based in Syria fired 20 rockets at Israeli front-line military positions in the Golan Heights early Thursday, the Israeli military said, triggering a heavy Israeli reprisal and escalating already heightened tensions in what appeared to be the most serious violence in years.

Iran has a sizable presence in Syria, with roughly 4,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guard members stationed in Syria, sent in 2013 in order to provide reinforcements for Syria President Bashar al-Assad.

"I think that matters were presented in a direct and forthright manner, and this is important". "We did not come to the Iranian border, they came here", he said. Israel has warned it will not tolerate its archenemy Iran establishing a military presence on its doorstep.

Residents spent the night in shelters, but schoolchildren went to class as normal the morning after. Nevertheless, the north of Israel remains on high alert and security has been increased at Israeli embassies overseas.

Amos Gilead, a retired senior Israeli defense official, told a security conference in the coastal town of Herzliya that Iran's intentions in Syria meant a wider conflagration may only be a matter of time.
