'Smallville' actress, alleged sex cult leader back in court

Prosecutors say Mack helped Raniere recruit women to his upstate NY mentorship group NXIVM that turned them into sex slaves.

Alleged sex cult leader Keith Raniere and former "Smallville" actress Allison Mack came face to face for the first time since the pair were charged with sex trafficking when they appeared before a federal judge in Brooklyn on Friday.

The 57-year-old self-help guru was asked to enter a plea for charges pertaining to sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and forced labour conspiracy, according to E!

The judge scheduled the trial date for both of them for October 1.

As for Raniere has been in jail since he was arrested in Mexico in March.

Vice President's Doctor Who Helped Derail Ronny Jackson's Confirmation Has Resigned
Earlier this week, CBS News and other outlets reported that the Pence's doctor had been critical of Ronny Jackson , Mr. Peña was among those who claimed professional misconduct by Jackson.

"I'm not concerned about anything that is not the truth", he said. The collateral was allegedly used to keep members silent about the group's activities. "I think what you're going to see is these were consenting adults who knew what they were doing and approved of it - and I think that's at the core of the sexual allegation in this matter", said defense attorney Paul DerOhannesian, who is representing NXIVM leader Keith Raniere.

Prosecutors also said they had to review "years" of evidence in the case.

Penza said prosecutors were open to plea discussions with the defendants, but Agnifilo told reporters after the hearing that Raniere planned to go to trial. A follow-up status conference has been set for June 12 at 11 a.m. Mack's lawyers are petitioning the court to allow the actress not to be present for future status conferences.

Allison Mack, her mother, and their lawyers cut a deal with prosecutors late last month that saw Mack released on a five million dollar bond and agreed to stay under house arrest in California.
