Rain and storms possible today, then turning sunny and breezy sunday

Unlike last weekend, the severe threat with this system is much lower as the Storm Prediction Center has only outlined the area in a marginal risk which is the lowest threat level. If we are to see a strong storm, main threats would be wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and possibly an isolated brief tornado. Showers and Thunderstorms will likely occur.

Clouds and passing showers won't slow temps from climbing into the upper 70s and lower 80s.

The showers are marching across the state with an easterly wind. Strong winds could cause large limbs and smaller trees to fall. By morning, we'll expect some showers and storms across the area. The interaction between an area of low pressure to the west this morning with a ridge of high pressure off the Atlantic Coast is bringing gusty east-southeasterly winds across our region.

Rainfall amounts will likely exceed an inch in many locations. We have had a few isolated showers this morning already, but the heavier rain will arrive later this morning.

Even though there is rain moving in, a dominating high pressure will linger over the area most of Sunday and Monday that will keep us dry. In fact, there could still be a few thunderstorms lingering in East Alabama tomorrow but, again, no severe weather is anticipated. Rain chances will also increase through the morning hours. However, if it moves in overnight, we could see colder temperatures with lows dropping below the freezing mark.
