Zach Johnson shoots 65, ties for Valero Texas Open lead

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Zach Johnson rode the momentum of a big finish to a 7-under 65 and a share of the early lead with Ryan Moore at the Valero Texas Open. "That's the beauty of this game", Johnson said.

Kiwi Danny Lee fought back well from a horror first round to shoot four-under 68 and slip under the cut-line at even par for the tournament.

The only glitch came on the final hole of the day when he shot a bogey five, his first bogey in the previous 24 holes of the tournament. He is in jeopardy of missing the cut depending on afternoon scores. The Spaniard cut a frustrated figure at the fifth hole where he threw his driver into the bushes in disgust after hitting his tee shot. That was the PGA Championship and, 10 weeks later, the Castello Masters in Spain.

European Tour: Alvaro Quiros shot a 2-under 70 in windy conditions to improve to at 7-under for a one-shot lead over Andrew Dodt after two rounds of the Trophee Hassan II in Rabat, Morocco. This time, he missed the cut in the Masters and Texas Open three weeks apart.

They had three birdies on the front nine in alternate-shot play and added five on the back in better-ball play to get to 13-under for the tournament.

Ben Crane of the United States shot a 66 to end the day in fifth alongside Laird and Canadian David Hearn, who managed a 37ft putt on the par-4 17th on his way to carding 68. Garcia, the top-ranked OWGRer and pre-tourney fave outright (14/1), opened with an indifferent one-birdie, three-bogey 74 and cancelled three birdies with three bogeys on Day 2. "That green is pretty exposed and. yeah, really short and committed to that second putt really well and knocked it right in the middle".
