Multi-vehicle crash snarls traffic on 401 in Mississauga

A multi-vehicle collision has shut down the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Winston Churchill Boulevard on Thursday morning, April 19.

Two cars and another transport were involved as well, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.

Two people were taken to hospital following the collision but their injuries are not believed to be serious.

Ontario Provincial Police, the Ministry of Transportation, firefighters and paramedics are all on scene at the crash.

It is not immediately clear how long the other lanes will remain closed but Schmidt said that crews are already starting to sweep up the debris on the roadway.

Drivers heading northbound on Winston Churchill Boulevard are able to turn east onto the highway.

"Injuries are unknown at this point", said Schmidt.

He said it appears traffic was slowing in the area when the crash occurred but that it's too early to say what exactly caused the crash.
