United suffer shock loss to West Brom, hand title to City

Manchester City are now 16 points ahead of 2nd placed side Manchester United - the Premier League record points gap between 1st and 2nd place at the end of a season is now 18 points by Manchester United in 1999-00.

Someone text Pep Guardiola the news because the Manchester City manager is somewhere on a golf course blissfully unaware that his side are Premier League champions for just the third time.

A week after preventing its neighbors from clinching the title in front of their own fans by rallying from 2-0 down to win 3-2, United delivered a similarly unlikely result as managerless West Brom pulled off one of the shocks of the season.

If United draw the race would also effectively be over as City would be 15 points clear with a maximum of 15 available to Jose Mourinho's team, who have a vastly inferior goal difference.

Manchester City's swaggering march to the title has seen Pep Guardiola's side hailed as one of the finest teams in the Premier League era.

"I was talking before the game and saying the first time you win it, you think you're going to win all of them".

They could yet beat three significant Premier League landmarks set by Chelsea - the highest points tally of 95 in 2004-2005, the most wins in a season at 30 in 2016-2017 and the most goals scored at 103 in 2009-2010. There have been a lot more good days for the Red side but today it is for the Blue.

The Warriors lost 4-3 to the Cleveland Cavaliers despite leading 3-1 with three matches to play, while Madrid managed to finish fourth in the Primera Liga 14 years ago, having held an eight-point lead at the top with 12 matches to play.

"You can win the Champions League in seven games, the league is 10 months".

Alfie Evans - Court of Appeal rules AGAINST further treatment
The 23-month-old is now at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool where doctors have said his condition is untreatable. Last week, a judge decided it was in the best interests of Alfie for his life support to be switched off .

"It shows what football is in Manchester".

Guardiola, who sealed his seventh league title across three clubs in nine years of management, was playing golf with professional Tommy Fleetwood as the trophy was decided. It's just one title.

And that is why Saturday's clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley has become so crucial for Guardiola and his team.

"He has been able to transfer to the team that hunger and desire to never be satisfied".

'We needed a period of adaptation...his methods were the right ones, we believed in him.

The Premier League title is the 24th trophy of the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss' managerial career. "I think they need to be helped, but if the guys chose to do that, it will happen like this season".

"West Brom is a club I care about a lot", he said.

"This club is absolutely unbelievable in all terms".
