Two Weber State University employees and an engineer have filed to run for the Ogden School Board of Education District 4 seat.

A community meeting addressing strategic planning was scheduled for Wednesday, April 11, at 5:30 p.m., in the high school library.

There are several meetings and events scheduled for local school districts this week, and most are focused on preparing for the appointment of new superintendents.

Two of her three sons go to Taylor Canyon Elementary, one of the schools that was part of the school district's school consolidation plan presented earlier this year.

Cornell School District was the only district in the state to be recognized as both a Title I High Achieving School and a Beating the Odds School. The superintendent originally planned to leave at the end of 2018.

The board reviewed the credentials of 16 applicants, narrowing down a list of eight semi-finalists, who were interviewed March 19-20.

School Board Tom Marshall (Leesburg), a member of the ad hoc committee on the Academies of Loudoun, said the first step should be repairing the relationship between central office administration and teachers.

Additionally the trio said the vote to send Chiloba packing was done while some of the commissioners were out of the country. By law, the commission must have four active members to carry out business.

In a heated question-and-answer session April 10, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Ashely Ellis assured School Board members that the teachers', students' and parents' biggest concerns have been addressed.

The Title I awards from the DPI honor schools that receive funding from Title I, which is awarded to schools serving families with economic disadvantages.

Andrews said the district is better than it was when he got here.

As the board members took their turns stating the level of spending that they supported, the $127 million spending range emerged as the favored level, with Wolff, Wood, Billig, Engel, and Lisi all saying that they felt that that was the level necessary for the project of the scope that the district needs.

"One of things... that would be advantageous for [the county] is if they hire a full time officer, then they have someone to help them reduce their overtime costs in the summer", Eklington said.
