Seven Dead At Lee Correctional Institution

A sequence of fights that raged for more than seven hours at a South Carolina prison left seven inmates dead and at least 17 more needing "outside medical attention", the South Carolina Department of Corrections said early Monday.

At least seven people are dead after fights broke out at a maximum security prison in sc, according to authorities.

According to DOC, multiple crews responded to an incident at the prison Sunday night.

According to the agency, all staff and responding law enforcement officers were "safe and accounted for".

Inmates overpowered an officer and took control of one side of a dormitory, holding the officer for about an hour and 25 minutes, officials say.

Local fire and rescue officials said that they were responding to a "mass casualty incident" Monday morning at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville, which serves as a state prison for men.
