Man caught for burglarizing home was already wanted for retail theft

A man who had robbed a jewelry store on Cardinal Avenue thought he had made the ideal escape, only to be arrested by an off-duty police officer. Witnesses described a man on a bicycle who was trying to get into homes and looking in windows.

The stolen items were returned to the owner and the two suspects were taken to the Justice Center where they were booked and placed under $1,000 bond each.

The next day (April 15) at 9:00 a.m., officers found Gautney at 14th and Pearl and arrested him for trespassing for Saturday's incident.

According to a release from the Auburn Police Division, at around 2:30 a.m., police responded to a vehicle burglary in progress at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Commerce Drive. Authorities say some of the property taken from this burglary was identified as being in possession of Gautney.

The video released by the Lee County Sheriff's Office shows 56-year-old Lois Riess of Bloomberg Prairie, Minnesota, talking to 59-year-old Pamela Hutchinson April 5 at the Smokin' Oyster Brewery in Fort Myers Beach.

The prosecution said there were more than 12 other case files in various police stations in Nairobi that would be presented before the court in due course.
