Domhnall Gleeson in talks for The Kitchen

The movie will mark Berloff's feature directorial debut.

Gleeson is perhaps best known for his role as General Hux in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as well as starring roles in Ex Machina, Frank, and About Time.

The fan-favorite actor is in final negotiations to join the New Line crime drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Gleeson will take on the role of Gabriel O'Malley, "an intense Vietnam vet who works for the neighbourhood gangsters as a hitman before skipping town to avoid the police".

Set in Hell's Kitchen, New York, in the 1970s, The Kitchen follows the lives of Irish mobsters' wives who end up taking over and running the business after the Federal Bureau of Investigation throws their husbands behind bars - Stepford Wives this is not! He later returns to Hell's Kitchen to settle his debts when the wives rise to power, which may or may not end up being a wise decision.

The comic book is a smorgasbord of violence, thrills and social observations, as the three women step out of their lives as pampered wives and immerse themselves in the sewers and cesspits of Manhattan.

Directed and written by Andrea Berloff, with Ollie Masters responsible for the comic book series, "The Kitchen" is also set to star Bill Camp, Brian d'Arcy James and Wayne Duvall, in what looks to be one of the most diverse casts the big screen has ever seen.

The film has a release date of September 20, 2019, and is set to begin filming in May.
