Bayern Munich confirm Arturo Vidal out for season after knee surgery

Bayern Munich confirm Arturo Vidal out for season after knee surgery

The Chile global had only missed six matches for Bayern this term due to a couple of injuries and suspensions, but this latest setback will prevent him from featuring in their final four league clashes, the Champions League two-legged affair with Los Blancos and the DfB Pokal Cup showdown with Bayer Leverkusen.

The Chilean suffered a setback on Sunday in his first training session since he picked up an injury against Sevilla earlier this month.

Losing the tough-tackling midfielder for forthcoming key games is a blow to Bayern's hunt for the treble including Tuesday's German Cup semi-final against his old club Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes had hoped Vidal could be fit for their European clash against Real next Wednesday or the return leg in Madrid on May 1. I've just spoken to (team) doctor (Hans-Wilhelm) Muller-Wohlfahrt on the phone.

Tiger's Roll owner Michael O'Leary also heaped praise on Russell following the race and commended the 38-year-old for his resilience and strength of character.

Juup Heycknes said, "He slipped and fell", "Arturo has a loose body in the knee, which hinders stretching".

The statement read: "Arturo Vidal underwent knee surgery by Dr Ulrich Boenisch in Augsburg on Monday". He needs keyhole surgery on his knee.

"Arturo will definitely be out of action for a while", he added.

Bayern, who have already won the Bundesliga, and begin their Champions League semifinal tie against Real Madrid next week.
