Amy Schumer in talks to play boxing champ Christy Martin in biopic

In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, comedian Amy Schumer, will portray Martin in a drama based on the boxer's life, written by Katherine Fugate. In her private life, she fell in love with another woman and left Jim, who shot and stabbed her and left her for good in a brutal and jealous rage. She would go on to testify in the 2012 trial that landed him behind bars for 25 years on a conviction of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm.

Schumer is bringing her message of body positivity to the big screen in the comedy "I Feel Pretty", which sees an insecure woman believe she's the most lovely and confident woman in the world following a head injury.

Martin was the champion until Muhammad Ali's daughter Laila arrived on the scene and beat her in 2003.

Martin, aka Christy Salters, grew up in West Virginia and earned the boxing nickname The Coalminer's Daughter after her early successes in the ring. Her last fight was a 2012 close points loss in a rematch with Mia St. John.
