ABC Orders 'The Goldbergs' Spinoff Series

ABC Orders 'The Goldbergs' Spinoff Series

A 1990s-set spinoff of "The Goldbergs" - but not quite the version viewers saw in an episode of the show earlier this season - has earned a series pickup at ABC. The official logline of the spin-off states that "despite their eccentricities and insane personal lives", Principal Glasscott, Coach Mellor and Lainey Lewis are "heroes to their students".

ABC had hoped to air the spinoff during the 2017-2018 TV season, but ultimately passed on it in favor of Zach Braff's Alex Inc. However, the network chose to air it as a backdoor pilot in the January 24 episode of "The Goldbergs" titled "The Goldbergs: 1990-Something" as a gesture that ABC might consider giving the project a try.

She was a regular for the last few seasons, but went off the college for this current season and has only been in a few episodes.

This series will also take place in the '90s with Meadows and Callan as two of the leads, but rather than involving Long's character and her children, the other main character will be played by the returning AJ Michalka in the role of Lainey Lewis, who is now a teacher at William Penn Academy. The series is from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios.

Global Gupta asset seizure in progress
The National Prosecuting Authority released a statement, explaining why the investigation into the Guptas has hit fifth gear. However, there were no Guptas to be seen on the plane.

"For me, every show that's about teachers, and there's been a number of them, they're like misfits who hate the kids and don't want to be there and hate their jobs", he told Deadline a year ago. Ours was a family meets the workplace. The teleplay is from Marc Firek.

Sean Giambrone stars as Adam, alongside Jeff Garlin as his father and Wendi McLendon-Covey as his mom. Also featured in the series is Adam's grandfather Al "Pops" Solomon (played by character actor George Segal). Patton Oswalt narrates the show from adult Adam's perspective.

The Goldbergs airs Wednesday nights at 8/7c on ABC.

The Goldbergs has been one of ABC's most successful and consistent sitcoms since it debuted back in 2013.
