Japanese tech giant Sony has officially unveiled the Xperia XZ2 Premium smartphone today. It's the direct successor of the Xperia XZ Premium that was known for its 4K display.

Despite the new design, it's a bit odd that Sony didn't implement the new bezel-less display with 18:9 aspect ratio that's found on the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact. So, what are the main highlights of the phone and what are the things that it is missing? The only difference is that there is now a dual camera setup on the back, something we missed on Xperia XZ2.

In addition, Sony says the Xperia XZ2 Premium can record 4K movies.

There's also a detail around the back of the new phone - a dual camera system which we'll talk about in a second. Xperia XZ2 Premium is IP65/IP68 [iv] certified to withstand splashes and spills. However, it is an upgrade in every other area, be it the display or the camera.

The Xperia XZ2 Premium steps the display up a fraction of an inch to 5.8 inches over the 5.7 inches of the Xperia XZ2. The device measures 158 x 80 x 11.9 mm and weighs 236 grams. Just like the Xperia XZ2, there is no headphone jack on the XZ2 Premium. And, talking about the display, the Xperia XZ2 comes with a 5.7-inch Full-HD+ display whereas the Xperia XZ2 Premium sports a 5.8-inch 4K HDR display. It's the only smartphone to bring you true professional camera quality plus a premium entertainment experience, all powered by the ultimate in processing power with the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 845. The XZ2 Premium also has dual front-facing speakers, which the company claims are its loudest Xperia speakers ever, with S-Force Front Surround and Hi-res Audio.

The group, which has been working with United Nations Department of Safety and Security, will continue the fact-finding mission. They say the strikes are punishment for killing dozens of people, many of them women and children, with banned toxic munitions.

Other specs and features of the smartphone include 6GB RAM, 3540mAh battery with Smart Stamina and STAMINA mode, Qnovo Adaptive Charging technology, 5.8-inch 4K HDR screen, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The Xperia XZ2 Premium, as the name suggests, is an enhanced version of the Xperia XZ2 that made its debut at MWC 2018, and is yet to make its way to many global markets like India.

For selfies, the device features a 13MP sensor on the front with f/2.0 aperture. The dual camera, by the way, has one color lens and a monochrome lens.

Juicing up this 4K smartphone is a 3,540mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 3.0 via USB-C. IP65/68 water resistance are on board, so you don't have to worry about getting the phone wet.

There's also a difference on the front camera. It will be available in two contemporary colors: Chrome Black and Chrome Silver. What are your opinions on the design and the specs?

Sony has yet to reveal the final price for the XZ2 Premium, but expect it to be more than the XZ2. Do let us know via the comments section.
