Shots fired as RCMP recover stolen Regina taxi in rural Saskatchewan

RCMP said the vehicle involved was a black taxi cab van, which matched the description of a cab stolen in Regina on Friday. The driver died at hospital and the passenger was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

Regina police were asking for help locating the taxi while at the same time advising people not to approach the vehicle or driver.

On April 13 at 6:59 p.m., Annapolis County and Kings District RCMP received a call from a concerned citizen who reported seeing an abandoned boat in the water at Cloud Lake, located south-east of Torbrook, N.S. This resulted in an RCMP member discharging their firearm.

An RCMP vehicle struck the van and the cab became stuck in a ditch.

Severe storms possible Sunday night
As the storms move onshore, there is a chance for localized, damaging wind gusts and the possibility of a brief, weak tornado. It will be much cooler tomorrow-feeling like early March, as high temperatures only make it to the upper 50s tomorrow.

A gun was then pointed towards an RCMP member, so an officer fired their gun again. With the assistance of Police Dog Services an adult male and adult female were arrested at the scene.

No RCMP members were injured as a result of this incident.

Both remain in custody and will be appearing in North Battleford Provincial Court Monday, April 16 at 9:30 a.m.

"After a preliminary investigation RCMP determined the boat belongs to 67-year-old Burpee Leslie Banks".
