Sarasota man carjacks vehicle with child inside, deputies say

It happened Saturday, April 14, in the parking lot of Lowe's on Fruitville Road and Cattleman.

This time, the 31-year-old is accused of stealing a truck as a 9-year-old girl jumped out of its backseat, according to a Sarasota Sheriff's Office news release.

The young girl was able to escape the vehicle before 31-year-old Thomas White drove out of the parking lot. As the victim was loading mulch into his auto, deputies say White jumped in the front seat and drove away with his daughter.

According to deputies, the little girl said White told her to get out of the auto. She then stated, "No this is my daddy's auto".

City crowned champions after shocking United loss
The Baggies defended well in the closing minutes to claim the victory that hands Man City the title. After all, West Brom had lost eight of their previous nine games and last won on January 13.

The child told deputies she was in fear for her life and jumped out of the moving auto onto the pavement.

A pursuit ensued but the auto was ultimately stopped at the intersection of Cattlemen Road and Bee Ridge Road after a deputy deployed stop sticks, which blew out two of the car's tires. As the deputy attempted to block the driver's door with his patrol vehicle, White jumped out of the auto and the deputy was unable to stop before crashing into the open door. Detectives later found out the Sante Fe was stolen in Sarasota earlier this month.

White remains in custody at the Sarasota County Jail on two counts of Resisting an Officer, Carjacking, Burglary, Kidnapping and Vehicle Theft.

White has two dozen prior arrests in Sarasota County for crimes including Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, and Dealing in Stolen Property.
