Kendrick Lamar is officially a Pulitzer Prize victor.

California rapper Kendrick Lamar won the Pulitzer Prize for music on Monday for his album "DAMN.", organizers announced.

"Recording released on April 14, 2017, a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life". The album becomes the first piece of music that is not Classical or Jazz to take home the prestigious honor that started 101 years ago in the fields of literature, journalism, and music composition.

Many were (rightfully) shocked when Lamar's universally acclaimed "DAMN." was bested for the 2018 Grammy for album of the year by Bruno Mars' incredibly popular, and equally mediocre, "24 Magic".

The New York Times and the New Yorker magazine shared the Pulitzer for public service for their reporting on the sexual harassment allegation against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
