Conway questions Comey's credibility over Trump meeting claims

This was most recently evidenced by a television hit in which she admitted that former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey swung the election for Trump.

Conway, during an appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America", appeared to suggest Comey's handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe handed her boss the presidency. But she quickly tried to clean things up, disputing ABC's headline, "Kellyanne Conway slams Comey: "This guy swung an election" as misleading on Twitter.

Huh. So it seems Conway is criticizing Comey for swinging the election for Trump, something that Conway and Trump benefitted from, I guess?

On Twitter following her spot on the program, Conway beat a hasty retreat, saying the "swung an election" line had been meant to be sarcasm.

Comey, who maintains that both he and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are impartial, has said during congressional testimony that he was uncomfortable with the President's desire to meet with him alone and his alleged request for Comey's personal loyalty.

Remember, too, that when Trump first fired Comey in 2017, one of the White House's initial defenses of the firing was because of how Comey mishandled the Clinton investigation, though Trump himself would later admit the Russian Federation investigation played a role. "I don't think so".

Days before the election, Trump argued it "took guts" for Comey to "make the move that he made in light of the kind of opposition that he had where they're trying to protect her from criminal prosecution".

She also smacked down the IJR for running with ABC's framing. Why not run out of the Oval Office and say, 'Hey attorney general, vice president - come back!'?

But the president also said in an interview last May that he fired Comey at least in part because of the FBI investigation Comey was then leading into Russian interference in the election and potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
