Accused serial killer McArthur charged with eighth count of first-degree murder

Alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur now faces an eighth murder charge.

The 66-year-old former landscaper is accused of killing Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam between Sept 3, 2015 and December 14, 2015.

Police said at the time believed the man was one of McArthur's victims and requested the public's help in learning who he was.

Police initially released a digitally altered photograph of an unknown deceased man in early March.

Lead investigator Det. Sgt. Hank Idsinga announced Monday at a news briefing that the latest victim's name was Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam, 37. He had no direct family in Canada and was never reported as missing.

According to investigators, the seven men, who all had ties to Toronto's LGBTQ2S community, were murdered between 2010 and 2017.

The 66-year-old landscaper is now facing seven first-degree murder charges for allegedly killing Andrew Kinsman, 49; Selim Esen, 44; Majeed Kayhan, 59; Soroush Mahmudi, 50; Dean Lisowick, 47; Skandaraj "Skanda" Navaratnam, 40, and Abdulbasir Faizi, 42. The sprawling investigation into McArthur is probing cold cases that go as far back as 1975.

The remains of seven men, six of them identified as being among those named in the murder charges, have been found in garden planters in a property in the Leaside neighbourhood where an acquaintance let Mr. McArthur store his tools.
