He also claimed that some students, who are also undergoing PhD under the same guide, have contracted TB while working in the lab due to lack of proper equipment and personal protective accessories given to them. He had an Aadhaar card from Bihar that revealed that he belongs to village Baradi Bairiya in East Champaran district and was now residing at Batla House in Jamia Nagar.

Khurram has been charged under sections 419 (impersonation) and 468 (forgery for goal of cheating) of the IPC and he had come under the watch of the RDA who found him odd as he made different claims to different doctors and that he roams around wearing the lab coat and stethoscope all the time. "We found out he had made different claims to different doctors". The report also quoted Dr Abhishek Singh, who is the vice-president of the Resident Doctors' Association saying that the impersonator had used the name and clout of Resident Doctors Association and attended political and medical conferences. The Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) has written a letter to the authorities of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and expressed concern over the issue.

One of the reasons he had given for his crime was to help an ailing family member get preferential treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Romil Baaniya said Khurram was charged for impersonation and forgery. He has studied till Class 12 and no criminal record.
