150 involved in 'brawl' at Greenwood temple

Police and medics responded to a verbal and physical fight involving roughly 150 people at a Sikh temple in Greenwood on Sunday afternoon.

The altercation began as there was a change of leadership within the temple which happens every two years, Fillenwarth added.

Greenwood Police say that a fight on Sunday at a Greenwood gurdwara in which several people suffered minor injuries appeared to have been sparked off by an election.

He dismissed the reports circulating on social media that the AIMIM had withdrawn all its candidates from Karnataka. He added that the party will support and campaign for the candidates of the Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) party instead.

The brawl reportedly resulted from an anticipated transition of leadership power.

Four people received treatment for minor injuries, with Temple member Gurpreet Sing describing the injuries as just "bruises and minor cuts". Fillenwarth says it's believed that there was a worship service going on when the fight broke out. "It reached a whole new level".

A fight at a Sikh temple in Greenwood involved a dagger, sharp objects and pepper spray. No arrests have been made so far.
