Former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton visits Madhya Pradesh

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in her final stages of the three-day private trip to Madhya Pradesh, India.

Hillary arrived here this morning on a two-day sojourn and was scheduled to visit the Mehrangarh Fort in the evening, they said. Ms Clinto was on visit to MP on invitation of Richard Holkar, scion of the erstwhile Holkar royal family. She arrived at the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport at around 8:00 pm in a private plane amidst tight security, an official said. She is likely to visit tourist spots located around Maheshwar, including the picturesque Mandu-home to historical monuments frequented earlier by Mughal rulers, officials said.

Maheswar was capital of erstwhile Holkar kingdom till January six, 1818.

Sources in the government said that she is also likely to participate in a function organised by a local voluntary organisation, which works with the Clinton Foundation-the NGO promoted by Bill and Hillary Clinton. The magnificent Jahaz Mahal was built in second-half of the 15th century to accommodate women belonging to the royal harem. She also paid a visit where the famous Maheshwari sarees are weaved and took a boat ride on the banks of Narmada River.

Clinton, who was the Democratic Party's candidate for the 2016 United States presidential polls, was scheduled to interact with children of a local school in the evening.

On Tuesday morning, Clinton will leave for Indore from where she will fly back to U.S. at around 11 am, the sources added.
