Former Secretary Of State Rex Tillerson Speaks After His Firing

The animosity peaked in October, when news surfaced that Tillerson reportedly called Trump a "moron" following a July Pentagon meeting.

Just minutes after Donald Trump fired Rex Tillerson on Tuesday, the president was blunt about his long-standing differences with his former secretary of state.

The White House and State Department have had a number of high-profile clashes after Tillerson took the post as America's top diplomat, including a glaring split during a row between Qatar and its Arab Gulf neighbors.

Some State Department officials said Tillerson did not know he had been fired until he saw Trump's tweet.

The job now falls on Wichita's Mike Pompeo, who became familiar with Trump while Central Intelligence Agency director for a year and is regarded as an advisor the president trusts. CIA Deputy Director Gina Haspel will succeed him, also following Senate confirmation.

When Trump ultimately made his decision last week to meet with Kim, he did so without consulting Tillerson.

Tillerson's Under Secretary of State, Steve Goldstein, was also fired on Tuesday for contradicting the White House account of Trump's firing of Tillerson, saying the secretary of State was caught flat-footed by the announcement. "When you look at the Iran deal". Secretary-designate Pompeo, who has been criticized in the past for statements about Islamic leadership and has no diplomatic experience, was chosen by Trump because the two have a "very, very similar thought process".

TRT World spoke to Leone Lakhani for more details. Disrespectful and humiliating. For months it had been speculated just when Tillerson would have to leave; the fact that it happened right now will hurt the US. He said he is delegating his responsibilities to Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, and his last day will be March 31. "So we were not thinking the same".

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill were caught off guard by the firing, with many questioning its timing.

The moves suggest the Trump administration "is tactically going to be a little bolder on its foreign policy", he said.

Both Broncos and Cardinals interested in Case Keenum
The news is expected to be confirmed later on Tuesday and rubber stamped when Free Agency opens at 9pm (GMT) on Wednesday. Apparently, the Denver Broncos were not as interested in quarterback Kirk Cousins as most people were led to believe.

They are aligned on most issues.

August 27, 2017 - Tillerson says in an interview with "Fox News Sunday" that the committed to advancing American values in the aftermath of the White House response to a rally by white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia, earlier in the month. But this dynamic led to inconsistencies in White House positions.

Before that, in December 2017, Pompeo, just weeks before Trump's "now or nothing" warning, had warned Pakistan to weed out terrorism from its safe havens or the United States would be forced to act.

"The Secretary had every intention of staying because of the critical progress made in national security", Goldstein said.

The White House distanced itself from those remarks, and a few days later, Tillerson himself backed off.

Tillerson was inexperienced as a diplomat and did not have many friends in the department he oversaw, but he earned global respect.

Tillerson had joined Defense Secretary Jim Mattis in pressing a sceptical Trump to stick with the agreement with Iran and other world powers over Tehran's nuclear ambitions; and he has taken a more hawkish view than Trump on Russian Federation.

Lawmakers from both major parties have criticised those cuts and the administration's failure to fill dozens of open jobs there.

Rami Khouri, a senior fellow at the American University of Beirut, said Haspel's appointment was "in keeping" with previous actions by the Trump administration. "With Pompeo, Trump's worst instincts on Iran and North Korea will be reinforced".
