Both Broncos and Cardinals interested in Case Keenum

Both Broncos and Cardinals interested in Case Keenum

Apparently, the Denver Broncos were not as interested in quarterback Kirk Cousins as most people were led to believe. The news is expected to be confirmed later on Tuesday and rubber stamped when Free Agency opens at 9pm (GMT) on Wednesday. At the same time, he might have ended up in the best offensive situation out of the teams still searching for a starting quarterback.

Case Keenum, regarded as the consolation prize in free agency for quarterback-needy National Football League teams, has agreed to a contract with the Broncos. Aside from a passable six-game spell with St. Louis in 2015, there's nothing to suggest he's capable of repeating 2017.

The knock-on effect of Keenum's move could see last season's Denver starter Trevor Siemian traded or released while the likes of Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater are the other two names who could leave the Vikings and assess their options elsewhere. Keenum was great for the Vikings last season, but he had his "what are you doing?" moments and I don't know if a fanbase can be completely comfortable with Keenum, who was very average in his first four seasons in the NFL.

Keenum must now go out and prove Elway and the front office right in their evaluation of him as being the better fit for the Broncos.

At this juncture, with the Broncos out of the wild west that is the quarterback hunt, NY is in a far better position to find their quarterback of the future than it was at the beginning of the legal tampering period on Monday.

Last year, however, he experienced a big leap. And he met Gary Kubiak on a golf course.

"I still think we're not too far away", Elway said at the combine. There were some things we should have done, that we should have done differently that we didn't do. Now they will count on Keenum to get them back into the playoffs and, they hope, be in the mix to advance deep into the postseason.
