NCAA snubs USC, Notre Dame among NIT field

"Of their 28 wins, all but four were against teams in the last two quadrants,"Rasmussen said, referring to the new terminology to better evaluate road and neutral-court wins".

Every year, fans gripe when their teams don't make the N.C.A.A. tournament, sometimes for good reason. If you are looking for snubs, start with the first four teams left out of the field: Baylor, Notre Dame, Saint Mary's and Southern California.

"Our guys, after a season of gut punches, that was another gut punch today", Coach Mike Brey said. I have prepared them for the NIT the last month, [so] we've been very realistic about how this could go. We'll have more on that matchup later this week. One example: In the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament, they held Cincinnati to five points in the first half.

"Notre Dame was a unique situation from the standpoint that they had a couple kids that they played without for part of the year", Rasmussen said Sunday.

The Irish's resume included wins over Florida State, Wichita State and North Carolina State, but they lost to Ball State, Indiana and suffered an ugly loss to Michigan State. Bonzie Colson leads four in double figures for Notre Dame averaging 20.2 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. "I know we beat (the Orange) on their floor". "I have to believe the committee was exhausted of looking at our stuff".

As for the second round, Staley acknowledged the outside attention a game against Virginia, her alma mater, would bring. A'ja Wilson, a 6-foot-5 senior forward, leads Coach Dawn Staley's team with 22.6 points and 11.8 rebounds.

The Atlantic Coast Conference was once again one of the toughest in the nation throughout the 2017-2018 season, as evident in the nine NCAA Tournament bids it received this year. For all these reasons, Baylor missed the tournament for the first time in five years.

There are some other really fun possible matchups, too.

"We have a championship ahead of us, and we could win and we can play together, keep putting the uniform on". Without both players, the Irish were 0-4. The victor faces either No. 4 Penn State or No. 5 Temple in the second round. "We look forward to tipping things off on Tuesday". Spoiler: UConn is going to make it!

The numbers throughout the season, as they often are with the Huskies, were staggering. Lost in the semis but made the most of the NIT.

Colson returned late in the regular season and Notre Dame picked up two victories in the ACC Tournament before losing to Duke in the quarterfinals.
