And, while the size of the update is now unknown, it's safe to assume it will weigh more than 1 GB in size as this is an Android version update.

Asus announced the ZenFone 5 series at Mobile World Congress 2018 (MWC) late last month. The Asus Zenfone 5 Max with model number ASUS_X00QD is listed in Geekbench's database, and as per the information available, the phone is equipped with the decently powerful Snapdragon 660 SoC and the latest version of Android (v8.0 Oreo). However, Asus has already rolled out the update to some of the handsets earlier.

You can also try to manually force the update by accessing the "Settings" menu, then the "About" option, and finally, "System Update". Similarly, the new update comes with Android Instant App support and fully redesigned emoji set, adaptive icons, and easier installation for unknown apps.
