Rudy's Strudel serves up paczki on Fat Tuesday in Cleveland

The pastries, which traditionally would be gobbled up by Polish families, are created to use up all of the fat, sugar, eggs and fruit in the house (all of which were banned during Lenten season).

February 13 is Fat Tuesday, which in West Michigan calls for a traditional paczki. At Smurawa's Country Bakery in Pulaski, customers were lining up as soon as doors opened at 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, and coming from all over Wisconsin, and as far as MI and IL to purchase paczki. The creative holiday was founded to use up all sugar, eggs, and more before Lent.

The tradition has evolved over the years and now, come Fat Tuesday, Americans rush out to get the tastiest paczki they can find.
