Pistons hold on for home win over Hawks

Updates with new lead.

In the end, it wasn't enough, but the Pistons did not look remotely interested in closing out this game as two (yes that's right, two) different Hawks shooters were fouled at the three-point line in the game's final 30 seconds.

Van Gundy wasn't buying that this could be a teaching lesson.

Not after the Pistons made it much harder than necessary.

"Our bench came in and we had a huge lead and they didn't even try defensively, didn't even make an effort, let them back in the game", Van Gundy said. "We should have been able to shut down our starters, but we had to bring them back, and they didn't bring anything either. I'll take win and go to the All-Star break, but that was an embarrassing fourth quarter". Bazemore was held out for rest, and Schroder didn't play with a back issue. "We're missing wide-open shots, missing layups".

Van Gundy thought his team's poor shooting - 26.3 percent in the fourth quarter - cost Griffin his milestone.

At that point, Van Gundy said his team went on break. "He was doing a great job of passing". Detroit had seven players in double figures.

With Kent Bazemore and Dennis Schroder sitting this one out, and Ersan Ilyasova out of sight, the Hawks fell behind by 30 points to Detroit in the third quarter. "We're not going to lay down and give up".

In addition, Agati said that Matthew Edmunds on Monday left "multiple pages" of writing that made "his intentions pretty clear". Police received a call Monday from Edmunds' co-worker asking them to check on him, because he had failed to show up for work.

Isaiah Taylor converted a three-point play that cut Detroit's lead to 100-96 with 13 seconds to play.

The Detroit Pistons were crisp and cruising along in the third quarter Wednesday.

The Hawks scored the game's first five points and caused Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy to call an early timeout. "He should have had 13, 14, 15 assists", Van Gundy said. "We played well for about 35 minutes, but we didn't bring anything after that". Atlanta kept slicing into that cushiony Pistons lead on seemingly every possession in the 4 quarter, and they ended up outscoring the Pistons 37-22 in the final period.

"I think the way we were moving the ball and playing defense to build the lead was great", Griffin said.

Through his first eight seasons in the league, Detroit Pistons All-Star forward Blake Griffin has established himself as one of the top scorers at his position.

Hawks: Atlanta missed 20 of its first 22 3-pointers.

Pistons: Detroit is now 5-3 with Griffin in the lineup.

"For three quarters we were really good". "We all are getting better game-by-game". They'll return to practice on Wednesday and host the Boston Celtics on February 23.
