More and more developers are leaving the Windows Phone platform, just like Microsoft itself and the users. But now Microsoft has officially announced that Windows 10 mobile is dead and shifted its software to focus on multi-device scenarios and cloud developments that don't need phone involvement anymore.

With new Microsoft apps such as Continue on PC, Edge on iOS and Android, and Microsoft Launcher for Android phones, Microsoft is now clearly pushing users away from the older Windows 10 Phone Companion app.

At this point, it's not clear exactly how the "Windows App Previews" scheme will work, or even if it will happen.

At least that's the word from Thurrott.com, which spotted that there is a new preview program available for the Camera, Photos, Alarm & Clock, Feedback Hub, Tips, and some other integrated Windows 10 apps.

While there are plenty of reasons for Microsoft not to invest supporting Windows Phone, the rather slipshod behaviour of the Bing Maps team suggests to me that they too may share Windows Phone's fate soon. So, Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella dropped the mantra of "Mobile-first" and adopted the new one; "Cloud-first".

We reported recently that the Bing app on Android now directed users to Google Maps, and speculated that Bing Maps may be next on the chopping block at Microsoft.
