Man kills son, 6, self, by carbon monoxide poisoning

A New Hampshire man who authorities say killed his 6-year-old son and himself by carbon monoxide poisoning had lost a son who was the same age in 2009.

Investigators say the deaths of 39-year-old Matthew Edmunds and his 6-year-old son, Preston Connor, inside their Derry mobile home was a murder/suicide.

Autopsies performed yesterday determined father and son both succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning, and that Preston had been murdered and that the elder Edmunds had committed suicide.

Police also found two grills containing burnt charcoal and ash, according to the press release.

Police received a call Monday from Edmunds' co-worker asking them to check on him, because he had failed to show up for work. Officers observed that the room had been sealed from the inside using duct tape and a blanket.

The attorney general's office continues to investigate.

In addition, Agati said that Matthew Edmunds on Monday left "multiple pages" of writing that made "his intentions pretty clear".

Police conducting a welfare check were met with a sign warning of carbon monoxide in the home. "No further information is expected until final toxicology reports are completed, which is estimated to take several months".
