Ryan student murder | Bus conductor given clean chit in CBI chargesheet

CBI has filed a chargesheet against a juvenile in connection with the killing of 7-year-old Pradyuman Thakur at the Ryan International School.

CBI had made the charge sheet of more than 50,000 pages against the accused and presented it before the additional sessions Judge Jasbir Singh Kundu who is treating the accused in the murder case as an adult.

If the accused is convicted, he would be kept in a correctional home till he turns 21-year-old after which he can be shifted to a jail or granted bail. The Class XI students was produced in special children's court on January 30 and remanded to another fortnight in judicial custody.

In its chargesheet, the agency urged the court to discharge the conductor citing that there was no evidence against him and that he was coerced by the Gurgaon Police to confess to the crime. The juvenile accused had also asked at least six of his friends to get poison or a knife for him to kill "some child", so that the parent-teacher meeting and examinations were cancelled, the chargesheet states. After the Nirbhaya case in 2012, laws were amended to facilitate the trial of juveniles (between 16 and 18) as adults in particularly heinous crimes. The court also dismissed the bail plea of the accused for the third time.

The charge sheet also had no mention of Ryan Pinto, Augustine Francis Pinto and Grace Pinto, promoters and top management executives of the private school who were granted anticipatory bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on October 7 a year ago.
