Spotify will now offer visual podcasts in Spotlight

"Everything at Gimlet begins with audio, and with Spotlight, through new visual expressions of shows, we hope to reach new listeners in fresh and original ways".

As popular as the world's largest music streaming service, you can only attract that many paying customers with music. This seems like a mutual benefit since users can enjoy visual elements on pod-casts, and Spotify can gain a broader audience through the format.

Podcasts using Spotlight will be featured in their own special playlists, and Spotify is first partnering with BuzzFeed News, Cheddar, Crooked Media, Lenny Letter, Gimlet Media, Genius, The Minefield Girl, Refinery29, and Uninterrupted as the brands that'll help launch it.

As we await for Spotify to list they've revealed that a newly added section of the app will offer news related content.

Spotify has unveiled a new multimedia format, Spotlight, that enables content creators to introduce a visual layer to their streamed audio, complementing podcasts, audiobooks, news and other audio with photos, video and text that appears as they move through each episode.
